2-TDMPP works in the Pd(II)-Pd(IV) manifold. We believe that it is unlikely that Pd(II) species can survive in the presence of several reducing agents such as terminal alkynes and phosphines present in the reaction mixture. The tendency for Pd(II) to be easily reduced into Pd(0) species under a variety of reaction conditions is well known.
