Freud personally acknowledges the debt psychoanalysis owes to experiments in post-hypnotic suggestion: "Even before the time of psychoanalysis, hypnotic experiments, and especially post-hypnotic suggestion, had tangibly demonstrated the existence and mode of operation of the mental unconscious."
