    • Wirhin the eikonal representatition (Ref. 8), the standard wave-action conservation law is only asymptotically valid (i.e., in the limit where the background medium is weakly nonuniform and weakly time dependent compared to the wave space-time scales) and wave action is considered as an adiabatic invariant; the wave-action conservation law derived in this paper, which is valid for nonekonal wave fields (i.e., wave fields for which the eikonal approximation breaks down), is, therefore, a generalization of the standard wave-action conservation law.
