The establishment of the National Assembly for Wales (Government of Wales Act 1998 and National Assembly for Wales (Transfer of Functions) Order 1999) makes one rather more uneasy than before in using the words "England" and "English" to describe the jurisdiction of England and Wales. However, the terminology which would have to be used in order to be completely precise is so cumbersome that this article continues to use the conventional terms. Even though it is fairly common practice to speak of "United Kingdom" or "British" company law, the discussion herein is restricted to England.
