    • The cross-over phenomenon occurs, because the prerequisite for the growth of an enzyme layer on the carbon electrode surface is the formation of a thermodynamically stable structure (for deposition processes called "nuclei") which leads to a shift in reduction potential. Thus on the forward sweep electroactive species is adsorbed or deposited onto the electrode surface at a more negative potential. On the backward sweep the deposition is occurring on an enzyme surface at a less negative potential and continues until the equilibrium potential is reached. The second cross-over corresponds to the equilibrium potential. D. Pletcher, R. Greef, R. Pear, L. M. Peter and J.
