19. Coulomb damping is named for Charles Augustin de Coulomb who first described it mathematically, although it is initially discussed in the literature by Aristotle. Coulomb, of course, also did work with electrostatics where his name is frequently seen as well. It is, however, a coincidence that the form of damping described here is both called Coulomb damping and is associated with electric charge.
