    • The (002 - τ) satellite was also observed for a 33 ML thick film. The temperature dependence, however, could not be studied due to the intense background of Laue oscillations from the (002) Bragg peak (Ref. [15], p. 210).

    • Since Ho exhibits the smallest splitting of the systems studied here, the temperature effects are not as clearly visible as for Gd [8]. Nevertheless, the Ho data are presented because of their relevance for the present study.

    • The spectra can be readily described by a vanishing splitting. Since the exact line shape of the valence-band emission is not known, however, a finite splitting of ≈60 meV above T* cannot be ruled out.
