    • Conductance histograms in gold and copper at room temperature did not exhibit CQ peaks when the STM tip was approached to the metallic sample in contrast to those obtained when it was pulled out. In these experiments, both "tip" and "sample" are identical pieces of macroscopic gold or copper wire.
