    • There is no evidence that reactions between the radical anions themselves produce other than a normal E/A polarization. It is not possible to form only the radical anions, but mixtures with an OH adduct (hydroxycyclohexadienyl radical) can be made.

    • note
    • Under the condition for 5 and 50 mM solutions, about 50 and 100% of incident photons were absorbed by phenolate, respectively. For the 50 mM solution, the initial radical concentration at high laser doses approaches 1 mM. The initial half-life of the radicals is about 100 ns under such a condition. The initial yield of the hydrated electron will be underestimated when extrapolation from the electron decay curve on a longer time scale to time zero is used.

    • This value is from the standard continuum dielectric model. We note that there is a large hydration entropy for the hydrated electron (Han, P.; Bartels, D. M. J. Phys. Chem. 1991, 95, 5367-5370). Some of this entropy may provide a contribution to the solvent reorganization energy in addition to that from the dielectric model for reactions involving the hydrated electron.
