    • Scott KP: The role of conjugative transposons in spreading antibiotic resistance between bacteria that inhabit the gastrointestinal tract. Cell Mol Life Sci 2002, 59:2071-2082. This paper reports that anaerobic bacteria of the human gastrointestinal tract can serve as reservoirs of antibiotic resistance genes, many of which are carried by mobile genetic elements. Evidence that gene transfer may occur between these reservoirs and various pathogenic bacteria is also presented.

Extensive information on the class of elements known as conjugative transposons is also presented.
