    • Our calculation assumes a Gaussian distribution of scattering angles, and did not consider the non-Gaussian tail of the scattering distribution. We also did not model the small fraction of cosmic rays (about 10%) which are not muons. However, low-energy electrons will be absorbed, and high-energy (∼GeV) electrons behave like muons. The close accord of experiment and simulation in Ref. 1 suggests that these effects are not crucial.
