BY "no loss of activity" we mean that the same amount of metal comes off the support and forms the desired metal phosphine complex when used in the ligand exchange reactions discussed later in this communication. Should the alkene complex decompose, then we would not expect it to form the phosphine complex, as the decomposition products would be expected to be either metal oxide or higher nuclearity metal complexes.
