Neurocysticercosis in radiographically imaged seizure patients in U.S. emergency departments
-
Ong S, Talan DA, Moran GJ, et al. Neurocysticercosis in radiographically imaged seizure patients in U.S. emergency departments. Emerg Infect Dis 2002; 8:608-613. This describes the first systematic evaluation of the prevalence of NCC in seizure patients in a non-endemic setting. Surprisingly high seroprevalence levels were found in epileptic patients in some US hospitals, mainly in cities with sizeable Hispanic populations.

Tomographic findings in 1000 consecutive patients with antecedents of epileptic seizures
-
Trentin AP, Teive HA, Tsubouchi MH, et al. Tomographic findings in 1000 consecutive patients with antecedents of epileptic seizures [in Portuguese]. Arq Neuropsiquiatr 2002; 60:416-419. These authors present a good estimation of the impact of neurocysticercosis in neurological morbidity in an endemic country. Approximately 25% of patients with seizures had computed tomographic evidence of NCC. Over half of these had calcified lesions only.
