In the present study, oligo(α-methylstyryl)lithium was used instead of sec-BuLi in the reaction with 2. The reason is that the unexpected dianionic species by reacting sec-BuLi with the 1,3-butadienyl group of 2 was often formed to some extents in the reaction of sec-BuLi with a 1.5-fold excess of 2 as reported previously. The formation of this species was completely suppressed by using more than a 4.5-fold excess of 2.
