Erbe (François Bauduin, 57) conjectures that Baudouin, at his mother's deathbed in 1548, promised her that he would return to the Roman Catholic faith. He did not correspond with Calvin for two years after his mother's death, and at that point relations with Calvin were clearly strained. Hotman often publicly accused Baudouin of Nicodemism.
