Laparoscopic pelvic and paraaortic lymph node dissection in the obese
-
Scribner DR, Walker JL, Johnson GA, et al. Laparoscopic pelvic and paraaortic lymph node dissection in the obese. Gynecol Oncol 2002; 84:426-430. This is a careful study of the feasibility of laparoscopic lymphadenectomy in the obese patient. Although non-randomized, this work suggests that there is a reduction in the complication rate in comparison with that for laparotomy, and demonstrates that the node yield is not inferior using laparoscopic techniques.

Surgical morbidity and intermediate follow-up. Am J Obstet Gynecol 2002; 187:340-348. Laparoscopic retroperitoneal lymphadenectomy followed by immediate laparotomy in women with cervical cancer: A Gynecologic Oncology Group study
-
Schlaerth JB, Spirtos NM, Carson LF, et al. Laparoscopic retroperitoneal lymphadenectomy followed by immediate laparotomy in women with cervical cancer: a Gynecologic Oncology Group study. Gynecol Oncol 2002; 85:81-88. This is an outsanding example of a quality-control audit of laparoscopic lymphadenectomy. The adequacy of lymph node dissection was evaluated by means of an independent review of videos and inspections of surgical sites at laparotomy in 40 patients. Problems concerning adequacy were identified, and corrective measures suggested.
