    • In general, in automated synthesis, an operationally simpler protocol may be preferred over a more complex sequence, even at the expense of a slightly reduced yield, since it introduces less opportunity for failure of the entire synthesis. In this case, we found it advantageous to routinely repeat the sulfonylation step twice in separate reaction blocks (1 and 2, Fig. 2), prior to scavenging.
