Correlation of EUS measurement with pathologic assessment of neoadjuvant therapy response in esophageal carcinoma
-
Willis J, Cooper GS, Isenberg G, et al.: Correlation of EUS measurement with pathologic assessment of neoadjuvant therapy response in esophageal carcinoma. Gastrointest Endosc 2002, 55:655-661. This study attempted to correlate the EUS measurement of tumor cross-sectional area after neoadjuvant therapy with histologic assessment of tumor regression. The findings of this study confirm that EUS measurement of reduction of tumor cross-sectional area is a good marker of response to chemo-radiotherapy.

An analysis of multiple staging management strategies for carcinoma of the esophagus: Computed tomography, endoscopic ultrasound, positron emission tomography, and thoracoscopy/laparoscopy
-
Wallace MB, Nietert PJ, Earle C, et al.: An analysis of multiple staging management strategies for carcinoma of the esophagus: computed tomography, endoscopic ultrasound, positron emission tomography, and thoracoscopy/laparoscopy. Ann Thorac Surg 2002, 74:1026-1032. This decision analysis evaluated different strategies for the initial staging of esophageal cancer and supports the central role of EUS with FNA for staging of esophageal cancer in combination with other imaging modalities.
