note
-
Joel Steinberg injured Hedda Nussbaum by beating her violently and repeatedly. He beat her "across the hands with a broomstick," "burned various parts of [her] body" with a torch, "used a stick to beat [her] about [her] sexual organs, causing swelling for some months. He then beat [her] again, causing [her] to hemorrhage. On two occasions [he] threw [her] to the ground and urinated on [her]. On numerous occasions, [Steinberg] beat [her] with a metal exercise bar . . . and pulled hair out of [her] head." Nussbaum Affidavit, supra note 4, ¶ 4.
