A symmetry which differentiates between the quarks and the leptons, such as, (Formula presented) and (Formula presented), cannot easily be incorporated in a conventional GUT such as SU(5) or SO(10), where quarks and leptons reside in the same GUT multiplet. It may also be difficult to get realistic GUT spectrum in level one compactifications of superstring theory due to the absence of adjoints scalars. See for example, S. Choudhury, S. Chung, and J. Lykken, Nucl. Phys. B456, 89 (1995);

G. Aldazabal, A. Font, L. Ibáñez, and A.M. Uranga, B452, 3 (1995). From these points of view, factor groups as SU(3)(Formula presented) or unification at the level of MSSM are more attractive. In such cases it is also possible to introduce baryonic or leptonic parity.

C. E. Carlson, P. Roy, and M. Sher, Phys. Lett. B 357, 99 (1995). Upper bound on the product (Formula presented) were derived modulo the quark and squark mixing angles. The quoted bound is on (Formula presented) under the assumption that (a) there is no major cancellation between the complete set of diagrams leading to the (Formula presented)-(Formula presented) mixing and (b) all the squarks except the light top squark are degenerate in mass. We have seen that the renormalization effect of the couplings (Formula presented) and (Formula presented) removes the degeneracy between the squarks to a large extent (see Fig. 22).

RGE for the soft terms including (Formula presented)-parity-violating Yukawa couplings have been derived by B. de Carlos and P.L. White, Phys. Rev. D 54, 3427 (1996). They concentrated on leptonic flavor-violating effects induced by (Formula presented)-violating couplings.
