18. We note here that the D/O oscillations are not observed in the stable carbon isotopic ratios of M1-2. A correlation between oxygen and carbon isotopes in stalagmites is often considered evidence of kinetic fractionation effects. The lack of correlation in M1-2 argues against kinetic effects in the M1-2 oxygen-isotope record.
