    • Based on the present calibration of the spectrometer, the C 1s binding energy for a carbidic carbon (2×2)p4g overlayer on Ni (100) was determined to be 282.62±0.01 eV relative to the Ni Fermi edge. To facilitate direct comparison with published data, the binding energy scale has been shifted by 0.28 eV such that the carbidic carbon peak has a value of 282.90 eV as reported by Zdansky et al. (Ref. 31).
