Multivariate analysis revealed that the predictors of procedural stroke in 231 consecutive patients undergoing carotid stenting were advanced age and presence of lung or multiple lesions.

This first consecutive multicentre series of the use of distal filter protection devices in 88 consecutive lesions showed a successful positioning in 96.5% of cases, with retrieval of macroscopic evidence of debris in 53%. Only one neurological complication (minor stroke 1.2%) was observed.
