This was a placebo controlled study that demonstrated the analgesic advantages of continuous outpatient popliteal infusion over saline for foot surgery using an automated delivery device.

These authors present a systematic evaluation of portable infusion pumps used for continuous ambulatory regional anesthesia highlighting their advantages and disadvantages.
