Gjalt Huisman is Product Manager Pharmaceuticals at Codexis, a company specializing in the directed evolution of genes and genomes for applications in the pharmaceutical and chemical industries. He received his PhD from the University of Groningen in 1991 on genetic studies of microbial PHA production and his general research interests are in the development of efficient biocatalysts for the manufacture of fine and bulk chemicals. Professor Stephen Sligar received his BS in physics from Drexel University and his MS and PhD also in physics from the University of Illinois in 1975. He is currently a Professor at the University of Illinois in the Departments of Chemistry, Biochemistry, and the College of Medicine and is a Beckman Institute faculty member in the Advanced Chemical Systems Group
