7. "Self-sacrifice" does not, however, demand or even condone suicide; contrary to Western pop-cultural images, Muslim culture frowns on suicidal action and sets most strict boundaries on it. Only a few extremist sects such as the Hashishiyyun, or Assassins, dared transgress them.
