If this phase is studied upon cooling from a higher temperature phase, it appears to be liquid crystalline. Therefore, it was necessary to prepare the sample by heating to the isotropic phase followed by cooling and annealing at room temperature for two to three weeks before collecting X-ray diffraction data upon heating. Under these conditions, the sample is clearly crystalline in this temperature range (between 110 and 140 °C.)
