Stefania Capone, Gods on the Net : The Rise of Religions of African Origin in the United States. - In the United States, cults with African origins are undergoing spectacular growth. Besides Santería, which came along with Cubans in the 1960s and 1970s, and Espiritismo from Puerto Rico, there is now the « traditional Yoruba religion » (Anago) and Orisha-Voodoo. The confrontation between various versions of African traditions as well as the political issues underlying them is well suited to be played out on the Internet, where future changes in the world of Afro-American religions can take shape. The new technology seems to be an additional instrument in building a new community of believers.
