4. These figures have been derived using the material designation assigned in the 008 field in the UKMARC record. Some records will of course have more than one designation, for example a conference might also be a periodical, but in general the figures for minority materials are likely to be underestimates due to variations in cataloguing practice amongst the contributing libraries.
5. Date is derived from the 008 field in the UKMARC record. Records with no date tend to be periodical records as these often have date information recorded only in local fields.
