Towards a biography of Georg Cantor

Cantor's attacks have been grossly misrepresented and exaggerated: it is mistakenly believed that they arose from the controversies over his work and caused him to spend many years in a lunatic asylum. In actual fact, the attacks were basically endogenous and manic depressive, and he spent a total of only about four years in sanatoria and in the Halle Nervenklinik. See
