To a 100 mg sodium mirror (4.35 mmol), produced by vacuum distillation, was added 10 mL of diethyl ether, which had been dried over a potassium mirror, and 500 mg of tetrasilacyclohepta-1,2-diene 1 (1.18 mmol) at room temperature under Ar. After the mixture was stirred for 5 h, air- and moisture- sensitive red crystals suitable for X-ray diffraction were obtained by recrystallization from hexane, which had been dried over a potassium mirror.
