In our work, the time scale of the friction kernel remains constant as the static friction coefficient is increased [in contrast to the Straub, Borkovec, and Berne friction kernel (Ref. 9)]. As a result, the term weak (strong) damping, which refers to the magnitude of the static friction coefficient, is qualitatively synonymous with the term weak (strong) coupling, which refers more directly to the progression along the Kramer's turnover curve and is defined by the parameter ∈ [Eq. (18)].
