The materials in this section are based on recent sampling survey completed by the Chung-Hua Institution for Economic Research, which received valid responses from 221 management personnel and 513 production workers randomly selected from 161 Taiwan-invested manufacturers in mainland China. These enterprises were sampled according to the investment scales, investment forms, and trade categories of their Parent companies in 1992. 7. Beijing began implementing a five-day workweek in May 1995. However, the three kinds of foreign-invested enterprises have been allowed a two-year postponement. In other words, starting from May 1, 1997, all enterprises in mainland China are required to put the new system into practice.
8. Human needs may be divided in descending order of priority into physical, security, social, ego-gratifying, and self-realizing needs. When basic, material needs are satisfied, the needs of the next level will take priority. When a specific level of needs is satisfied, the same means of encouragement will become invalid.
