    • ESI-TOF and/or MALDI-TOF spectra of the intermediates and the dendrimers show fragmentation of the pyridyl disulfide groups (-110 amu) and corroborate the identity of the intermediates and products. Alkyl disulfides that result from exchange are much less labile: lines corresponding to loss of ligand (or incomplete reaction) are neglible.
