This probably occurs with DMF to the same extent and accounts for the fact that the acid capacity is less than the chlorine capacity for resins produced by reaction with both DMF and dimethylamine. Nonetheless, the experimental capacity of the DMF resin is still significantly less than the theoretical value or that found with the dimethylamine resin and thus suggests the presence of a side reaction.
