    • One should note that this statement is correct, in the presence of disorder, if we represent the operator U hat in the basis of the adiabatic states, ordered by their energy. In the absence of disorder one has to use as a basis the instantaneous eigenstates, ordered by their energy. In that latter case, however, these states are not the adiabatic states.

    • The endpoints of the period were chosen to be [-0.25,0.75] as the transformation between the adiabatic-states representation and the single-site-states representation is ill-defined when phi is close to an integer or a half integer. The exact results are very weakly dependent on the choice of these endpoints, and the conclusions are unaffected.
