18. The existence of such trajectories is not necessarily a consequence of the periodicity of the sawtooth oscillations, since aperiodic, quasi periodic, and chaotic processes may give well-defined trajectories as well. This is actually one of the strong points of the phase space representation.
19. What we reconstruct here is, strictly speaking, not the true phase space but a space which is topologically equivalent to it.
