Numular headache: A coin-shaped cephalgia
-
Pareja JA, Caminero AB, Serra J et al. Numular headache: a coin-shaped cephalgia. Neurology 58, 1678-1679 (2002). Nummular headache is described as a highly localized (coin-shaped), mild-to-moderate, rather continuous pain, exclusively felt in a small, circumscribed area (typically 2-6 cm in diameter) of the head, in the absence of underlying structural lesions.

Classification and diagnostic criteria for headache disorders, cranial neuralgias and facial pain
-
Headache Classification Committee of the International Headache Society
-
Classification and diagnostic criteria for headache disorders, cranial neuralgias and facial pain. Headache Classification Committee of the International Headache Society. Cephalalgia 8 (Suppl. 7), 1-96 (1998). In the section of secondary headaches of the 1988 IHS classification, it was stated that there are a few phenotypes a headache can express [1]. Namely, migraine, tension-type headache, duster headache, increased and decreased intracranial pressure, local lesion type, vasodilator type and stabbing type. Local lesion type was described as continuous pain having a distinct maximum in a circumscribed area of 5 cm or less but eventually spreading to surroundings or referring to more distant areas. Pain from cranial bone methastasis was noted as the prototype of this symptomatic focal headache.
