    • Generally, a Cu(III) formal oxidation state is assigned to the bis(μ-oxo)dicopper core. However, the 1s → 3d pre-edge peak at 8977.5 eV in the XANES spectrum of Cu-ZSM-5, indicates that the actual charge on copper is less, which can be due to the two-fold negative charge of the zeolite-oxygen ligands. This observation is also consistent with a relatively long Cu ⋯ Cu separation and concomitant long Cu-ligand bond distances in this and other bis(μ-oxo)dicopper cores surrounded by negatively charged ligands compared to the complexes with neutral ligands.
