9. In the case of 1d, after heating for 18 h the corresponding imidazoline 3-oxide precipitated in the reaction mixture. The compound was filtered and to the filtrate aniline was added and the mixture heated in a water bath for 15 min. The solvent was evaporated and the residue was dissolved in 1mL of ethanol and left to crystallize. The product isolated was shown to be diphenyl urea by comparing with authentic samples.
