    • The residuals from the least-squares fitting for the models with (a) both thermal and electron diffusion, (b) thermal diffusion alone, and (c) no diffusion were in the ratio 1: 1.5: 2.0 for Ni and 1: 1.4: 1.6 for Cr. The photoelastic constants were held fixed at the optimum values determined in the presence of electron and thermal diffusion. Releasing this constraint did not affect the ratio of the residuals significantly. There is an error in the ratio of the photoelastic constants for Cr quoted in our previous paper
