    • Simple diols, such as ethylene glycol, assume a trans conformation in solution due to repulsion of the hydroxyls and, thus, have scarce interaction with borate. The strength of borate interaction with other polyols, as measured by titration, was in the order of glycerol < erythritol < adonitol < arabitol < mannitol.
