This report, based on the epidemic of inhalational anthrax in Sverdlovsk, Russia in 1979, describes the largest series of human inhalational anthrax that has undergone postmortem analysis. The authors' findings show that B. anthracis bacteria disseminate widely, especially to the central nervous system and the gastrointestinal tract.
