    • This paper describes the design and implementation of simple protocols for the treatment of diabetes by nurses working at primary care facilities using essential drugs. Treatment was focused on preventing symptomatic hyper- and hypoglycaemia rather than measurement of blood glucose or Using these criteria nurses were able to ‘control’ 82% of patients with type 2 diabetes
