    • This study addresses the role of BMPs in patterning the dorsal telencephalon by conditional inactivation of the BMP receptor 1a. The results indicate that loss of BMP signaling in the dorsal telencephalon results in a normal dorsal-ventral pattern but a lack of normal development of the choroid plexus, suggesting a local role for BMPs only in the dorsal telencephalic midline.

    • In this study, loss of function for both Pax6 and Emx2 is shown to result in a respecification of the pallium towards subpallial fates typical of the ventral LGE (i.e. striatal specification). Because Emx2 mutants do not show overt patterning defects, these findings reveal a role for Emx2 in the absence of Pax6 gene function
