The stress of the disease and the chemotherapy and/or concurrent infectious processes may protect this axis to some extent.

Int J Radiat Oncol Biol Phys 2002, 53:543-547. • In spite of RT dose being directly related to the development of endocrinopathies, this study showed that current treatment regimens for medulloblastoma consisting of chemotherapy and low-dose craniospinal irradiation of 2340 cGy do not show a reduction of hypothyroidism compared with standard-dose craniospinal irradiation of 3600 cGy. This study supports young age and use of chemotherapy being associated with a higher incidence of hypothyroidism (prior data on both of these parameters are conflicted).
