No patient had malignant degeneration of an osteochondroma; however, three patients had first-degree relatives with transformation of an osteochondroma to chondrosarcoma.

36. Tyler W, Frassica FJ, McCarthy EF: Recurrence of a unicameral bone cyst after nineteen years. Orthopedics 2002, 25:435-436. The authors present an interesting case of a unicameral bone cyst in the proximal femur that recurred 19 years after curettage and bone grafting (longest documented interval in the literature). Although unicameral bone cysts are benign, it should be remembered that they are sometimes difficult to eradicate and many recur within 2 years.

J Pediatr Orthop 2002, 22;533-539. •• The authors performed a retrospective analysis of clinical features, method of treatment, and recurrence rates in 29 children with aneurysmal bone cyst treated at one institution. They concluded that recurrence rates dropped after the use of a high-speed burr.
