The authors investigated the PI-binding properties of all 15 yeast PX domain proteins. They were all shown to bind PI(3)P. The interesting observation was made that the yeast PX domains fall into two categories with strongly differing affinities for this phosphoinositide.

Proc Natl Acad Sci U S A 2001, 98:12908-12913. In this study, it was demonstrated that the cytokine-independent survival kinase bound PI(3)P selectively through its PX domain, targeting this kinase to endosomal membranes, thereby activating it.
