Preliminary experiments performed on the photolysis of 2-phenoxyacetophenone in ethanol showed 3-6 times increase in acetophenone formation when 0.015 M sodium hydroxide is added to the ethanolic solution. The importance of ketyl anion type intermediates on fragmentation also should be addressed.
