    • 4 (39 mg, 5 mol%) was added 3 mL of anhydrous toluene under nitrogen. The dark brown solution was heated to reflux and a solid began to precipitate out of solution about 30 min later. The reaction was stopped after 20 h, cooled to rt, and the solvent was removed under reduced pressure. The resulting solid was washed with diethyl ether (3×15 mL) to afford 390 mg of pure 1-(2′-pyridyl)-1,2-bis(diphenylphosphinyl)ethane, 1 as a white solid (yield: 79%)
